In the past decade our knowledge of the human genome and the linkage between genes and diseases has increased tremendously, providing an abundance of attractive targets for pharmaceutical intervention. RNA-targeting is the most direct way to translate this genomic information into drugs, and LNA is the chemistry-of-choice for these applications.

To support its discovery and clinical development activities of novel LNA drugs, Santaris Pharma A/S has invested heavily in its drug discovery and development capabilities, bringing together scientists with experience, talent and commitment to change the field of RNA-medicines. As a result the Company now controls a Drug Discovery Engine, which can rationally design and discover potent and safe RNA-targeted drugs, quickly and cost-effectively exploiting the efficiencies of the antisense technology. It is clear that further scale-up to support large clinical trials will allow oligonucleotide drugs to be produced at prices competitive with many other advanced therapies.

Santaris Pharma a/s has completed multiple manufacturing campaigns to GMP standards on five unique oligonucleotide therapeutics and is leveraging its discovery capability against two major classes of RNAs: messengerRNA (mRNA) and microRNA(miRNAs).
